West 13th Street Alliance Mission Statement

The West 13th Street Alliance was established in 2016 with the mission of helping to build and strengthen the community by: bringing together local residents, businesses and members of the general public to provide leadership on important community issues; to partner with police and local leaders to improve public safety; to enhance and preserve historic West 13th Street between 7th and Greenwich Avenues and its surrounding neighborhood; and to advance educational initiatives that promote conservation, beautification and well-being of community members of all ages.

Several years ago West 13th Street between 7th and Greenwich Avenues underwent a transformation with the help of the community.

 We make sure that our tree beds our filled with plantings year round. During the holidays they are filled with evergreen branches  and in the spring with over 5,000 tulips.

To celebrate  WORLD PRIDE 2019 we commissioned artist, Vlady Oliveros to create a public art installation, "TREE BED RAINBOW."  Volunteers from Ralph Lauren assisted with the installation courtesy of Citizens Committee NYC

We work with NYPD'S 6th Precinct to identify areas in need of graffiti removal and then supply the task force with the paint, tools and community support to remove it.

We partnered with The Whitney Museum and New York City Council Speaker, Corey Johnson's office to  clean up this exit which is the gateway to our shared community.

A years-long campaign for historic Bishop's Crook street lamps was finally successful. 


Assembly Member, Deborah Glick has designated historic lighting for  West 13th Street (between 7th and Greenwich Aves.) in 2020.

The West 13th Street Alliance/Project NYC in conjunction with Buon Italia of Chelsea Market announced a 5-week program to provide a free meal once a week to any neighbor over 60 yrs old. The meals were being donated by Buon Italia restaurant and Chelsea Market. Meals were delivered cold and a menu was  provided, but examples include chicken parmiagana with pasta or a side vegetable. The Church of the Village and their volunteers are participated in the distribution of these meals.

Co-sponsored  by The Church of the Village and The West 13th Street Alliance. Virtual Drag Queen Story Hour was a live-stream storytelling program designed for children ages 3 to 8. 

A drag queen read picture books, sang songs, and introduced the concept of drag as a form of dress-up and self-expression—something all kids can relate to! Through storytelling and creativity, DQSH teaches children about gender diversity and all forms of difference to build empathy and give kids the confidence to express themselves however they feel comfortable.

New York City is a city of islands, and the Hudson River  and its connected waters are inhabited by a wide diversity of species such as a sea horses, striped bass, Atlantic sturgeons and even marine mammals like whales and dolphins.


This lecture and slide show by John Delaney, local resident and Director of Communications at The New York Aquarium, provided an overview of life beneath the surface of local waters and the ecology of local rivers and seascapes.

NYC mixed media artist Linda Edkins Wyatt leads an afternoon of Holiday Card Making.


Attendees explored stencils, stamps, collage and heat embossing techniques to create their own unique and festive cards.

Author, health coach and lecturer, Karen Renzi, M.A. showed attendees how to prepare for a shopping trip, how to purchase appropriate amounts, how to store food for its longest usefulness, what the cheapest food staples to keep on hand are, and how to eat healthfully and deliciously as an excellent benefit.

Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance class that incorporates an aerobic fitness program with movements performed to popular Latin and international dance music. 


This introductory, basic level class is suitable for all ages, ranging from 18 - 100+. 


Tess Ghilaga is NYC-based yoga and Zumba instructor, and lifestyle journalist, who teaches at The Vanderbilt YMCA and privately.
